Summary

Pioneer does not collect information itself, but app usage and device information is collected by a service offered by Google LLC so that Pioneer can receive app analytics reports from Google as described below. Pioneer can view such analytics information and share it with third parties.

Privacy Policy

This Sound Tune Privacy Policy (“Privacy Policy”) applies to the use of Sound Tune App (“App”) of Pioneer Corporation (“Pioneer” or “we”).

Your privacy is important to Pioneer. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it. To better protect your privacy and to be transparent, we provide this Privacy Policy explaining how we and some of the companies we work with collect, use, share and protect your information (“information” or “data”) in connection with the App.

Before you use the App, you should read through this Privacy Policy completely and make sure that you are comfortable with our privacy practices.

  1. What information is collected?

    Analytics Information

    As explained below, Google LLC, a U.S. based company, with an address at 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway Mountain View, CA 94043 USA (“Google”), collects information about use of the App, such as how often you use the App, as well as your session durations, in-screen activities, your device models/operating systems/IP addresses and geographical locations.

    Notwithstanding the foregoing, in compliance with applicable laws, we will not collect your information if you download the App from certain areas (e.g. Russia, Indonesia, Vietnam).

  2. How is the collected information used?

    Provision of aggregated, non-identifiable usage information to Pioneer

    A third-party analytics tool, called Google Analytics and Google Analytics for Firebase (collectively, “Google Analytics”) from Google, uses analytics data sent to Google’s (or its wholly-owned subsidiaries’) servers from a Google Analytics software agent embedded in the App on your device. Information collected through Google Analytics is used by Google to provide Pioneer with aggregated, non-identifiable the App usage data.     Pioneer receives aggregated, non-identifiable reports on usage from Google Analytics (“reports” or “App usage data”). Pioneer uses these reports to track how the compatible Pioneer product, the App and compatible third-party apps are used in order to

    - improve Pioneer products and services;

    - conduct research, analysis, studies, and new product and service development;

    Pioneer processes the App usage data for the purposes set out above based on its legitimate interest in continuously improving its products and services and the user experience.

    In this regard, Pioneer is the controller for the processing of your information.

    If you do not wish for the information to be collected and used in this way, you may opt out by disabling such collection through the App and smartphone settings.

    Use of your information by Google

    Google and its wholly owned subsidiaries may share the information gathered from Google Analytics with other Google services and use the information, subject to the Google Privacy Policy (located at https://policies.google.com/privacy).

    In this regard, Google is the controller for the processing of the information and its Google Privacy Policy govern the processing of your information.

    If you do not wish for the information to be collected and used in this way, you may opt out by disabling such collection through the App and smartphone settings.

  3. With whom is the information shared and to what extent?

    Pioneer will share the information with the following third parties:

    • Third Party Vendors
      Selected fulfillment companies will have access to personal information solely as needed to provide consent-based marketing support, server hosting and technical support of our systems. Each company is required to keep the information confidential and secure and to use it only for the limited purpose for which we share it.
    • Companies with Whom We Collaborate
      In some instances, we may work with non-Pioneer companies to develop new products and services or improve our existing ones, and such collaboration may include the sharing of the App usage data. This data will be aggregated and will not provide those companies with information that identifies you or your mobile device.
    • Law Enforcement
      We may report to law enforcement agencies any activities that we reasonably believe to be unlawful, that we reasonably believe may aid a law enforcement investigation into unlawful activity, or if we reasonably believe that you have violated our policies, or the release of the information may protect the rights, property or safety of Pioneer, you, or another person.
    • (Potential) Legal Proceedings
      We may share the information with others as required or permitted by law. If necessary, this may include sharing information with governmental entities or third parties in response to subpoenas, court orders, other legal process, or as we believe is necessary for compliance, to exercise our legal rights, to defend against legal claims that have been brought against us, or to defend against possible legal claims that we determine in our sole discretion might be brought against us.
    • Business Transition
      In the event that Pioneer, substantially all of Pioneer’s assets, or the business unit offering the App, is acquired, the information may be transferred to the acquiring company.
  4. How do we protect the information?

    Pioneer has instituted reasonable and appropriate measures to ensure the information is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy and to help prevent it from becoming disclosed to individuals who are not described in this Privacy Policy.

    We choose service providers that we believe provide sufficient guarantees in respect of security. We demand the same security measures from the service providers as we impose on ourselves. We conclude a contract with every service provider and thereby stipulate the service provider’s duties to ensure data protection. Although we make every effort to protect your personal information and privacy, we are unable to guarantee the absolute security of the information.

  5. Transfer to third countries

    Third parties with whom the information is shared, like Google, may have their servers outside the European Union. Some data may thus be stored or transferred outside the European Economic Area (EEA) for the purposes described above. Pioneer respects all applicable rules and protective measures in this regard. Pioneer is committed to always ensuring an adequate and sufficient level of protection for your data, in particular by relying on an adequacy decision under article 45 GDPR, or by concluding standard contractual clauses under article 46.2 GDPR. Pioneer is located in Japan. Data transfers to Pioneer in Japan are covered by the adequacy decision concluded by the European Commission and Japan. Google is certified under the EU-US Privacy Shield.

    By accepting this Privacy Policy, you consent to the potential transfer, storage, processing, and other use of the information in third countries outside the European Union. You acknowledge that the information may consequently be subject to the privacy and data protection laws that may not be the same as such laws and regulations in your country of residence.

  6. Other websites and co-branded services

    The App may enable you to view, visit, or use applications, websites, products, and services provided by third parties. Information collected by third parties, which may include such things as location data, contact details, or personally identifiable information, is governed by their privacy policies and practices. We recommend that you learn about the privacy practices of those third parties before providing them with any information.

    In some instances, we may offer a service or feature that is co-branded with a third party. If you provide information in connection with a co-branded service or feature, that information may be shared between us and the third party. Although our treatment of that information is governed by this Privacy Policy, the third party’s treatment of the information will be subject to their privacy policy.

  7. How long do we keep your personal data?

    Pioneer will process App usage data not longer than 50 months.

  8. What are your rights as a data subject?

    If you are a data subject in the European Economic Area: You have a right of access to your data, a right to correct your data, a right to the erasure of your data, a right to limit the processing of your data and a right to ask the portability of your data.

    You also have a right to object to the processing of your data in general as well as to the processing of your data for direct marketing and profiling purposes.

    Some of these rights may be subject to conditions or exceptions.

    If the processing of your data is based on consent, you also have the right to withdraw your consent at any time, without this affecting the legitimacy of the processing done prior to the withdrawal of your consent.

    In accordance with article 77 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority of your habitual residence, your place of work or the place of an alleged infringement of the GDPR.

  9. Changes to the Privacy Policy

    We reserve the right to modify or amend this Privacy Policy at any time by posting the revised version.

    Material changes will only affect the information we collect after the effective date of the change to our Privacy Policy unless we clearly express otherwise.

  10. Children’s Privacy

    We do not provide products and services to children, or knowingly collect or solicit information from children under the age of 16.
